2020 Program

For twenty- six years the Johnson Society of Australia has explored life and culture in eighteenth century England through the eyes of Samuel Johnson and his circle of influential women and men. This is done by way of a program that informs, inspires and entertains.

Our plans for 2020 were interrupted by COVID-19 but members were still educated and entertained by weekly contributions by members, covering a wide variety of topics. A selection of these will be put into a booklet that is planned to be available by the end of this year.

We are also hoping to go ahead with our annual Fleeman Lecture, this time given by Susannah Fullerton, a distinguished literary presenter and Jane Austen specialist on the Topic : “A clean shirt for the ladies: Dr Johnson and the Women of Scotland.” This is currently set for Saturday August 29 subject to restrictions being lifted.

We also hope to go ahead with a visit to the National Gallery of Victoria and with our Christmas Function at the Mitre Tavern. Two of our Newsletters have been published and there will be two more before the end of the year, including a special One Hundred edition.
